REGARDING GNOMES

REGARDING GNOMES

Gnomes by and large are not known to have ever existed in the world of Nerin Toth. Many creatures of the fey are known to exist, such as gremlins, fremlins, redcaps, woodland sprites, and pixies.

The term Gnome is often frowned upon in mixed company as it is usually reserved as a vulgar and disrespectful slur to Dwarves, such, "you gnome!" or "your mother is a gnome!"

Gnomes are sometimes considered the main stars of campfire tales, often used to scare children who have stayed up past their bedtime to roast sweetmallows and sausages. Popular stories include, "The Gnome of the Woods", "The Haunted Gnome", and "The Headless Gnome."

Gnomes is a term sometimes used to describe the dwindling mental capacity of someone who is advanced in their aging or hasn't been educated, as in, "They must have gnomes in the brain!"

While gnomes do not exist, halflings are the one race in Nerin Toth who believe they do, even going as far as claiming to be gnomes themselves sometimes. This is the most common way however for a halfling to be thrown out of and banned from a public establishment.

The most famous gnome to have never existed is the hero of halflings everywhere, Knight of El Gnomath, Gnomington Gnoble. He is believed to have fought, defeated, slain, cooked, and eaten an entire dragon in one sitting and asked for seconds.
