SURGE AND THE SOUL-SLIP

SURGE AND THE SOUL-SLIP

The flash of white that transports SURGE, SNOW WHITNEY, BLACK CHEETAH, PIERCE CHARMING, THE BARD and ARCTIC to the world of DragonDark (*see Grimm, Indiana: Reality's Edge) is what is refered to as a soul-slip. Much like a time-slip, the soul is transported to another reality, unharmed and often leaving the subject disoriented, confused, and unaware of how they arrived in their new location.

The soul-slip that occured at the Chicago ComicCon was the result of ANNABELLE using a special technomancy bracelet to open a rift, allowing for the masses of the undead from the underworld of Hades to use the world of Nerin Toth as a bridge to invade Earth. Unaware of Annabelle's actions at the time, Surge, a being made of pure imagination combined with the magic book of the GRIMMOIRE, made physical contact with his creator, THE ARTIST, causing an anomaly during the soul-slip, allowing the soul of CHRIS ROOK to finally find a permanent home within Surge, while the soul of Arctic found a permanent home within Snow.

The whereabouts of The Artist are unknown beyond being transported to an alternate Earth, where he was shot and killed, and soul-slipped unwillingly by two opposing versions of his future self, saving him.

Soul-slip devices like Annabelle's bracelet are rare and uncommon within the multiverse.

Soul-slip is a power usually reserved for the celestial beings such as deities and angels, or denizens of the underworld, although extremely powerful spellbooks found within Nerin Toth have made mention of the ability.

Teleportation is not a soul-slip, although understanding the arcane mechanics of the magic spell are a prerequisite of one being able to soul-slip successfully without being obliterated.

Time-slips are much like soul-slips but only allow for the ability to time travel. Much like the teleportation spell, a time-slip spell is also a prerequisite in order to soul-slip.

Some spellbooks reference being able to soul-slip into The Dream, the reality beings find themselves in as they rest, although none have ever confirmed this to be accurate.
